NIEHS Breaks Ground on Future Research

چکیده
The expression of heat shock proteins (HSP) of the 65kD family (groEL) has been observed by flow cytometry using murine monoclonal antibody (MoAb) anti-HSP 65kD (ML30) on the surface of B (Daudi) or T (H9) lymphoma cells, on a moncyte cell line (U937) and also on a primary culture of a human pancreatic carcinoma (HPC). Moreover, the MoAb ML30 was coupled to Saporin 6, a ribosome-inactivating protein recovered from the seeds of Saponaria officinalis, to kill HSP-expressing cells with a specific immunotoxin. An indirect method using first MoAb ML30 and then anti-mouse IgG, immunotoxin was also performed. With this method a human serum positive for HSP65-antibodies was tested using anti-human IgG,

متن کاملUnraveling the Health Effects of Environmental Mixtures: An NIEHS Priority
Traditionally, toxicological studies and human health risk assessments have focused primarily on single chemicals. However, people are exposed to a myriad of chemical and non chemical stressors every day and throughout their lifetime. Some recent events that highlight the need to understand these complex exposures and their role in the etiology of disease include the Deepwater Horizon oil spill...
متن کاملPhysician-Scientists in Environmental Health
I believe that the physician-scientist represents an endangered species in biomedical research, and is absolutely essential to achieving our vision for the NIEHS. As a physician-scientist, my thoughts on this topic are somewhat biased and reflect my parochial views, as well as the more reasoned concerns raised by others on the fragile future of our species. Despite this admonition, I believe th...
